Nishant HariharanNishant Hariharan’s personal blog is unique. It is like a novel with chapters in wrong order. He blogs rarely, but when he does his blog posts are full of humour and its personal touch drags you in. Check out Nishant’s blog. We are happy to introduce Nishant as the first Malayali blogger to be interviewed in Kerala Blogger Community.

Tell us more about you and your primary blog
I was born and brought up in Trivandrum. Studied in a host of schools .. Kindergarten at Mary Mount, Primary at Holy Angels Convent (Yes .. they take boys till 4th grade), Secondary at St Thomas Residential and High school at Loyola High School. I did Plus two (was called pre-degree then) at Govt Arts college, then a B-tech from College of Engg, Tvpm, and finally an MS from New Mexico State Univ. A long and usually painful education. Fell in love during my B-tech and came back from US to marry her. I was supposed to join a company in US called Qualcomm. Since I came back that never worked out, but they had an office in India and I managed to get in touch with the folks here and get an interview. That way I got a job as soon as I came back. Now that things have settled down on the personal front, I just might go back to US.

How did you start blogging?
I started thinking of a blog roundabout the time we came to know that Pratibha (my wife) was carrying our first child. I wanted to tell our kids something about me and since diaries were out of fashion …

You have a unique style of blogging, it is almost like writing a novel with chapters in wrong order! Any comments?
I thought about my parents and realised how little I knew about their life before I was born. A few incidents here and there, a broad overview of their struggles. Nothing much. I want my kids to have access to a resource that tells them who I am, why I am what I am, the values I cherish and so on. So yeah … it is a story .. my story. Even though the articles in the blog has some masala, all of them are true .. atleast so far.

Do you have any other blogs?
Nope .. just this one .. and I’m not very regular with this too :)

Why do you blog? What motivates you?
I enjoy writing. That itself is a huge motivation .. and then there is this idea of showing this blog to my daughter when she is old enough .. maybe when she is in her teens and fighting with me 24/7.

Do you use any blogging tools?
Nope .. I just type and paste .. but the spell check and other features of blogger are a real boon.

Which blog post do you consider as your best?
That’s hard. I dont usually put in a lot of effort into writing .. so I’ve never really picked favourites. The one that makes me smile the most is the one titled ‘courting Pratibha’ but that’s more because I remember those times. ‘Kanush’s first year’ and ‘Shanku’ touches a few heartstrings too. Among the funny ones I dont know … all of them seem to lose their humour once I read them a few times. So right now I like the newest one best - ‘The Man-The Monkey’ .

What is your experience from blogging? (good or bad)
I enjoy blogging. Since my blog does not touch on social issues or other things that people in general might be interested in, I dont get many comments from people I dont know. So I havent had any bad experiences yet :) .. that’s not to say that strangers shouldnt comment. I would certainly appreciate their inputs.

Do your family/friends know about your blog?
Sure .. family and close friends .. I make sure they read every entry even if they dont want to :)

What are your favorite blogs?
I have a few links on my blog to blogs I like. OuchMyToe used to be very funny, but the humour seems a little strained of late. Running chick is an inspiration to to all amateur runners like me. I love her blog. Rajesh Kumar was a classmate of mine during my B-tech. He is a very funny person and his blog reflects that. You might have guessed that I dont really dig those weepy whiny cynical philosophical blogs much. I feel like screaming out .. “Life is beautiful. Be happy .. havent you heard .. a contented mind is a continuous feast.”

Is there anything you want to tell Kerala Blogger Community?
I think the blogging community in kerala has reached some sort of critical mass. We should work towards taking this to the next level. Maybe  meet and establish collaborative blogs or a community in orkut or something  like that. Any blogger should be able to reach out to the entire blogging community if he/she has a message.
